The 8-point checklist we run before every delivery

Consistent quality isn't luck — it's a checklist. Before any Strokly thumbnail reaches a client, it passes the same eight-point gate. Here it is, so you can run it on your own work too.

1. It reads at mobile size

We shrink every thumbnail to roughly 15% and look again. If the subject isn't instantly obvious and the text isn't legible at that size, it goes back. Most viewers see thumbnails on a phone — that's the size that matters, not your monitor.

2. There's one clear focal point

The eye should land somewhere immediately. If it bounces between competing elements, we cut or de-emphasize until a single hero remains.

3. The subject separates from the background

Strong contrast, a clean cutout, and enough separation that the subject pops forward instead of blending in. No muddy blobs.

4. Text is short and legible

Three to four words maximum, in a heavy weight, never overlapping the face. If there's more to say, it belongs in the title — not the thumbnail.

5. It matches the channel's style

We check it against the channel's recent thumbnails and its style system. A new thumbnail should look like part of the family, not a one-off.

6. The specs are correct

1280×720, 16:9, under 2 MB, RGB. Boring, but a thumbnail that gets compressed or rejected by the uploader isn't doing anyone any good.

7. No artifacts, only licensed assets

No stretched faces, no obvious AI glitches, and every asset is owned or properly licensed. If AI was used for a background or element, it's disclosed and approved.

8. It actually answers the brief

Right topic, right emotion, right hook. A technically clean thumbnail that misses what the video is about is still a miss. We read the brief again at the end, not just the start.

A checklist turns "good taste" into something repeatable across a whole team. It's the difference between a lucky thumbnail and a reliable one.

This is exactly why an agency can hold quality that a single busy freelancer often can't: the standard lives in the process, not in one person's memory on a good day.

Want every upload to pass this gate?

That's the whole point of Strokly — direction and QC on every file, so you never have to chase quality yourself.
